Manny Taveras is a proud Rhode Islander, father of three, and a seasoned healthcare strategist running to bring informed, community-focused leadership to the State Senate. Born and raised in South Providence, Manny is a first-generation college graduate and a product of the city's public schools.

For over 15 years, Manny has served as an Account Director in the Prescription Benefit Management industry, managing health plans across Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, ERISA, and private employer sectors. His expertise lies in guiding clients through complex legislative changes at both state and national levels, including navigating the Affordable Care Act, responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, and adapting to evolving state mandates. Manny has directly collaborated with states like Arkansas and New York, and has been closely involved with initiatives in North Carolina, Kansas, Maryland, Colorado, Arizona, and Hawaii.

Manny's commitment to healthcare is deeply personal. In 2003, when dependents were dropped from their parents' coverage at age 18, he was compelled to work full-time while attending college to secure health benefits. This experience underscored the critical importance of accessible healthcare for students and working families. Additionally, Manny has been instrumental in helping his non-English-speaking parents navigate the complexities of Medicare Advantage plans, further fueling his passion for simplifying healthcare systems for all.

Rhode Island's healthcare system is at a crossroads. Recent reports indicate that the state's acute care hospitals receive lower reimbursements from Medicaid and private health plans compared to neighboring states, leading to financial strain and workforce shortages . Community health centers are also facing challenges, with some experiencing significant layoffs due to inadequate Medicaid reimbursement rates . Manny's extensive experience in the healthcare industry positions him uniquely to address these issues head-on.

From coaching youth sports and working in city government to helping businesses grow in the private sector, Manny has always been a bridge-builder. He believes deeply in the power of education, small business, and homeownership to help families build lasting roots in the Ocean State.
